Feeding Times and Breast Milk
May 25th 2010 01:51
Many mothers believe they are doing the believe they are doing the best thing by pumping breast milk and feeding baby via bottle - in place of traditional breastfeeding. Breast milk is best for baby, but what some moms do not know is the fact that breast milk is different at 8AM than it is at 8PM.
The female body is in tune with the needs of mom and dad and in order to help them out a bit, chemicals are released in breast milk at night that help baby fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night. If parents are not careful, morning breast milk could be used before bed time and baby could be awake for quite some time.
If baby is having trouble falling asleep, try marking bottles with the date and time they are pumped. Then, feed baby only bottles that correspond with the same time of day on the day milk is pumped. For instance, milk pumped at 8AM will include chemicals to wak baby up so that milk should only be used during waking hours.
Some moms have more luck simply breast feeding at night and bottle feeding throughout the day. That way, baby is always getting warm milk perfect for that last feeding!
