Babies Do NOT Need Water

September 29th 2009 01:19
Contrary to the belief of some parents, babies should not consume water between feedings. Water can cause death in infants if too much is consumed over a short period of time. Children are born with a natural stop mechanism for eating. They will eat only until they are full and then get fussy again when they are hungry. Thirst is a form of hunger, for babies. If you feel your child needs something to drink, breast milk or formula are the best choice. Leave the water to older children.

Fruit Juices - NOT So Great for Babies

Even as children get older and start to consume more solid foods, it is important to dilute juice. Small jars of baby juice can contain as much sugar as 5 to 7 apples. Imagine a 20 pound baby consuming 7 apples every time they drank a little bit of juice. That is completely unhealthy and not a good choice. Again, breast milk and formula are best, but if the child needs something other than these, diluted juice is better than straight juice from the jar or can.
