This past Memorial Day, the sand was perfect, the water the right temperature, and the grill was ready for the food. The only problem…my children were burnt, sun burnt, to a crisp because I forgot to protect my most valuable possession, my children. The aches and pains will go away, but the “anger” they have toward dear old dad will last for some time. I tell you, I will not have a repeat on the 4th of July as I did this Memorial Day. I have some tips to give you so your little guys and girls can have an enjoyable time and not get hurt.

Step one: SUNSCREEN! Protecting your child starts with the danger the little ones can’t see. Remember ultra violet rays attack even when the clouds are out. Don’t always go after the most expensive or the name brand. Simply buy the sunscreen with the highest SPF.

Step two: Fireworks! Yes we all, I included love a good light show, but not if a child’s arm is on fire. Fireworks should be left to the professionals, or the responsible adults at your gathering. Sparklers seem harmless, but are extremely dangerous if left in a young hand.

Step three: Designate a specific play area! Kids being kids love to run and jump all over the place. Unfortunately where they run and jump can be directly in the area where we are grilling or setting off fireworks. Have an area set up as the “kid’s zone”. This way you can know your kids are safe and they have their own space during the celebrations.

Feeding Times and Breast Milk

May 25th 2010 01:51
Baby

Many mothers believe they are doing the believe they are doing the best thing by pumping breast milk and feeding baby via bottle - in place of traditional breastfeeding. Breast milk is best for baby, but what some moms do not know is the fact that breast milk is different at 8AM than it is at 8PM.

The female body is in tune with the needs of mom and dad and in order to help them out a bit, chemicals are released in breast milk at night that help baby fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night. If parents are not careful, morning breast milk could be used before bed time and baby could be awake for quite some time.

If baby is having trouble falling asleep, try marking bottles with the date and time they are pumped. Then, feed baby only bottles that correspond with the same time of day on the day milk is pumped. For instance, milk pumped at 8AM will include chemicals to wak baby up so that milk should only be used during waking hours.

Some moms have more luck simply breast feeding at night and bottle feeding throughout the day. That way, baby is always getting warm milk perfect for that last feeding!

All parents want their babies to have healthy, glowing skin. But the problem is there are baby skin care products that do not deliver the promised results. Expectations are high when it comes to infant skin care, and parents who are sensitive to their babies’ needs will do everything to meet their infant’s skin care needs.

Since time immemorial, the use of natural ingredients for skin care have been recorded and proven. If in the ancient times people were well aware of the value of natural and organic skin care, then why do we permit chemical ingredients for modern skin care products?

The answer is simple. Chemically enhanced products are produced easily and on a massive scale. But there is still no better alternative for natural ingredients especially for infant skin care. Even mothers who are not overly concerned with skin care will still prefer natural products.

The awareness for more organic skin care products has made its mark into the modern times. People have been sensitive and responsive to natural baby skin care products that are classified under organic skin care. Going natural and organic means better ingredients for your baby’s skin care. Another benefit of using natural baby skin care products is that they have been found to be more gentle on your baby’s skin.

As a comparison, natural baby skin care products have little or less fragrance than chemical-filled ones. Fragrances are usually made of chemical ingredients that can be harmful for your baby’s skin. So mothers who want to use all natural baby skin care products, will look for products that do not contain preservatives and other additives.

You can only do so much to protect your baby’s skin. For instance, if you are used to buying expensive brands just because they are more promising than other brands, chances are you are only spending extra dollars on infant skin care that are just as good as cheaper brands.

There’s little or no difference between expensive and cheaper brands. In fact, they may both contain the same ingredients. Check out the backside of their packaging and you’ll be surprise to see that theses products were just made of the same ingredients.

As you go over the baby skin care section, try checking the organic skin care aisle/rack and see if they have less expensive brands. Take time to check the ingredients and make sure you don’t see much of the preservatives and chemically sounding ingredients.

Going natural and organic means safer and better infant skin care. Taking time to check and research for natural baby skin care products over the internet or by asking your pediatrician, friends and family will help you make a good decision, because there is simply no compromising when it comes to your baby’s sensitive skin.

Babies Do NOT Need Water

September 29th 2009 01:19
Contrary to the belief of some parents, babies should not consume water between feedings. Water can cause death in infants if too much is consumed over a short period of time. Children are born with a natural stop mechanism for eating. They will eat only until they are full and then get fussy again when they are hungry. Thirst is a form of hunger, for babies. If you feel your child needs something to drink, breast milk or formula are the best choice. Leave the water to older children.

Conception is a topic that many people struggle with. For those who can get pregnant easily, there is no problem with the reproductive systems in the male and female. But for those who are having trouble conceiving a child, they will have to both be checked in order to see if there is any problems with the reproductive systems or if it is a problem of fertility. Getting pregnant may not be the hardest part of conception, but it is a topic that both men and women should be knowledgeable about.

Many parents never think about the power of the schedule when it comes to bringing baby home. They are caught up in the safety precautions and the birth of a new baby. The schedule, however, can help both mom and dad to enjoy the time with baby a bit more. A pediatrician once told me that every child in a home should be on a schedule. Why? Because children then know what to expect and that can mean the difference between children listening to their parents later in life and not listening to their parents.

Did you know that drinking water can cause death in infants? Just like adults can throw off their electrolyte balance to the point of death if too much water is consumed in a short period of time, the same can happen for baby. The trouble is, it takes far more water for an adult to reach this point than a baby.
